Anjeer, or fig, is the fruit of the Common Fig plant (Ficus carica). In India, it is often eaten as a dried fruit. These small fruits have a soft and juicy inside, with a mildly sweet taste. They have an edible peel that can be green or purple, and pink flesh. Dry figs are sweeter and chewier than fresh ones. They are very nutritious and provide many health benefits. Eating dry figs can help with digestion, lower the risk of heart disease, and regulate blood sugar levels

Benefits of Dry Figs

Vitamins and Minerals: Dry figs are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, and iron.

Fiber: They are an excellent source of dietary fibre, which aids in digestion and helps maintain bowel health.

Antioxidant Properties:

Dry figs contain a variety of antioxidants, including phenolic compounds, which help combat oxidative stress and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Bone Health:

The calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus in dry figs contribute to maintaining strong and healthy bones.

Heart Health:

The high fibre content helps in reducing bad cholesterol (LDL) levels. Additionally, the potassium in figs helps regulate blood pressure, contributing to cardiovascular health.

Digestive Health:

The fibre in dry figs aids in promoting regular bowel movements and preventing constipation. It also acts as a natural laxative.

Weight Management:

Figs can help in weight management as their fibre content makes you feel full, reducing overall calorie intake.

Natural Sweetener:

Dry figs can be used as a healthier alternative to refined sugar in various recipes due to their natural sweetness.

Blood Sugar Regulation:

Despite their sweetness, figs have a moderate glycaemic index and can help regulate blood sugar levels, making them a suitable snack for people with diabetes when consumed in moderation.

Immune System Support:

The vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin C and antioxidants, boost the immune system and help the body fight off infections.
